The Ministry of Deacons

In this sermon, we are going to take a slight departure from our study in Ephesians. I say it’s a “slight departure” because our main text will be 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Timothy was the pastor of the church at Ephesus. So, the church at Ephesus is still clearly in view. The reason we are going to take this departure is because one of our goals for this year as leaders of Waterbrooke is to build and to strengthen an effective ministry of deacons. We have had people functioning as deacons in the past at Waterbrooke. There are some who fill that role of ministering to those who have physical and practical needs in the church. I am grateful for those who have filled this “deaconing” role in different ways with servant hearts. In a few weeks, we are going to begin a class on Wednesday nights on the role of being a deacon and if you are interested in learning more about it or praying with us over whether you as a covenant partner are called to this ministry, we want to invite you to come to the deacon training class during Wednesday night focus. It is a crucial part of our vision as a church family. God willing, by the summer, we will have a newly launched deacons ministry established for the glory of God and for the good of Waterbrooke Church and its mission. Be in prayer and ask God to strengthen our church for His glory.
