Martha, Martha - Toxic busyness and the Mission of Christ

Listen to this great quote from Philip Ryken: “Jesus is not asking for something more from us; He is asking for less, so that He can give us more of Himself.” This Sunday, the message is called: Martha, Martha – Toxic Busyness and the Mission of Christ. The past few Sundays, we have studied toxic anxiety, toxic self-righteousness, and now we will look at toxic busyness. This story of two sisters, Mary and Martha, is one of the most well-known stories in the gospels. It is probably that so many of us can relate to it. Busyness is one of the addictions of a guilty and restless culture. Even good gospel ministry can become part of the exhausting treadmill of life if we don’t pay attention here.  Are you absolutely exhausted from life and have you ever stopped to ask “why?” God forbid that we add gospel ministry to the list of things that we do to feel better about our lives. This Sunday, Luke is going to show us that the mission of Christ is not meant to heap burdens upon us but to remove them. If you are weary and exhausted, if busyness is a coping mechanism for you, this is a message you need to hear. Looking forward to worshipping with you this weekend as we lift up Jesus together and find our rest in Him.
