"Longing to Learn from God"

A simple definition of discipleship is learning God’s Word God’s way. It’s letting the God of truth sear the truth of God into your heart and into your life. It would be one thing if you could take an online course and become a true disciple of Jesus Christ. However, God chooses to work His truth deep into our hearts through the process of living for Him in the real world over a lifetime. Because we start out from a position of immaturity and deep need, committing ourselves to be a true disciple of Christ can look and feel daunting. There can be a great deal of skepticism from others about one’s sincerity, integrity, or ability to follow God. There are always those ready to point out your weaknesses and your sins. You can even be your own worst critic if you allow yourself to meditate upon your past failures, your present struggles, or your future fears. What do you do when you experience the prompting and conviction of the Holy Spirit such that you really do want to take your relationship with Christ seriously? What do you do when you wake up and you realize that you have either been drifting into spiritual lukewarmness or that you never really made your relationship with Christ the One essential thing in your life? This is a psalm to encourage a person who really wants to make their relationship with God the number one priority of his or her lives but who knows this requires deep change. This is for the person who wants to sign up for a true apprenticeship in Christianity and to learn God’s truth, God’s way. This week, our sermon study is going to be on Psalm 25. It is entitled: Longing To Learn from God. Let’s gather to worship the Lord and seek His face. Let’s see what God will do in the lives of those who seek His face together.
